UPLYFT

PROBLEM: NYC has over 100,000 homeless people.

INSIGHT: Finding work for homeless people isn’t always prioritized, even though research shows employment is a key factor in ending houselessness. In order to hold down a job, people need reliable transportation.

IDEA: Lyft knows that cities run on people and works with communities to improve access to transportation and employment. Now that Lyft owns America’s largest bike-share company, Citi Bike, they’ll soon rebrand the service. Additionally, the Bike Angels program that incentivizes riders to “rebalance” bikes will evolve into something new. Introducing UpLyft, a program that prioritizes employing homeless people who will work to make bikes more available in racks across NYC where they are needed most, with built-in transportation for them to get to work.
